Saving Cultural Heritage – an International Conference at the Crimea (Sevastopol, 27 November 2020)

Abstract
On November 27, 2020 the Karaim National and Cultural Association “Fidan” held its second international conference entitled “Issues in the protection of Karaim cultural heritage, in Sevastopol. Due to the pandemic, the conference had to be organised online. Around 60 people from several countries took part in the event. The following report presents the summaries of the speeches of all 17 conference speakers who discussed a wide range of topics, including the history of Karaim communities, the research and protection of Karaim necropolises, new technologies designed to help preserve the Karaims’ heritage, biographical episodes of outstanding Karaims, musical folklore, Karaim artifacts in private hands, museum collections
and others.

Magister arabistyki, asystent w Ośrodku Dokumentacji Językowej w Instytucie Językoznawstwa, Przekładoznawstwa i Hungarystyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Polem jego zainteresowań badawczych jest aktywność Karaimów w Warszawie, a także tematyka karaimskich kupców i producentów tytoniowych. Był inicjatorem, a następnie koordynatorem realizowanego w 2018 r. projektu dokumentacji dźwiękowej ostatnich użytkowników języka karaimskiego na Litwie i w Polsce. Najnowszym rezultatem jego badań jest wirtualna mapa obecności Karaimów w Warszawie przed I wojną światową dostępna pod adresem https://mapy.karaimi.eu. Od wielu lat aktywnie uczestniczy w życiu społecznym i kulturalnym mniejszości karaimskiej. Od roku 2008 pełni funkcję skarbnika Związku Karaimów Polskich, a od 2015 jest prezesem Zarządu Fundacji Karaimskie Dziedzictwo. Członek kolegium redakcyjnego czasopisma „Awazymyz”.
